1st Sunday of Lent, Year B - An alliance with the Earth

First Reading: Genesis 9:8–15 (The Rainbow); Second Reading: 1 Peter 3:18–22 (A symbol of Baptism); Gospel: Mark 1:12–15 (He was Tempted)
Adults: What is one thing that I can do or say to be a sign of the living Jesus Christ for others?
Children: What is one thing I can do to show Christ’s love to others?
“Repent, and believe in the gospel." What are your regrets? What of your past conduct are you most sorry for? What past actions would make someone wonder if you believed in the Gospel at all? Do you think of these as sins from which you need to repent? What do you need to “believe in the gospel” that will help you repent? Remember you do not have to do this alone.

Fasting and Abstinence During Lent

As Catholic Christians we are asked to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.  Fasting means that we eat only one full meal on these 2 days and then for breakfast and lunch (or supper if lunch is our full meal) we only eat a partial meal i.e. for lunch instead of a sandwich, salad and soup perhaps we just have the salad and a piece of fruit.

We are also asked to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all Friday's druing the seaon of Lent.  That means we do not eat meat on those days.  We can have eggs, dairy products, produce etc.  Just not any meat.

For more information on fasting and abstaining visit http://www.americancatholic.org/features/lent/faqle9902.asp

6th Sunday in Ordinary Time (The leprosy was Removed) February 12, 2012

First Reading: Leviticus 13:1–2,44–46 (Live Alone); Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:31—11:1 (Imitate Me); Gospel: Mark 1:40–45 (He was Cleansed)
Adults: How do I understand the healing that only God can offer, as I reflect on my own life? Children: When has God helped me to feel better?
"Moved with pity, he…touched him.,…” And according to the law of the time, Jesus then became unclean. Are you worried about who you touch? Are you concerned about whose lives touch you? Do you avoid being touched or associated with certain persons? Have you ever been “moved with pity” but were unable to reach out and touch another human who had aroused that emotion in you?  Have you ever stepped back from getting involved or refrained from speaking up because you were worried about being guilty by association?
